It seems there are a lot of problematic gaps between the human and the environment. For oil, there is a gap between the demand for oil and the supply of oil. 

Now, let’s go through Econs 101 real quick. 

As the world population increases, the demand for oil increases. 

Population growth is only going to get faster, and that means more oil will be demanded in the future. 

Not only are we demanding more and more oil, the worst possible scenario is unfolding - we are simply not finding any more oil. 

So when demand increases and supply remains constant/decreases, this state of affairs happens:

This is why so much hostility and wars surround who gets oil, and why there people are trying to find oil alternatives and energy alternatives such as using food for fuel.
